New Songs @ Genghis, June 19

I thought I’d do a quick show to present some of the new songs I’ve written and hope to record soon.  It may be more than seven, I just like that number.  I’ll do a couple favorites, too.

Click the photo for a larger flyer, which you can right click to save and post on all your social networking blasts if you’re so inclined.  (I’d love it, if you would!)  The last show at Genghis, in December, was so much fun.  Magic is back in that room.  (details below)

Mixed Roots Film & Lit Fest, June 12

Mixed Roots Logo I’m thrilled to be asked back to the Mixed Roots Festival again — this year as a reader! Last year I closed the festival with a performance. This year, I’m in the Readings Program I on Saturday @ 1pm.  This is a wonderful two day festival.  It begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, the 12th and concludes Sunday at 7 p.m.

Check out mxroots.org for more info.

Drop an RSVP in the comment box and I’ll send you a free gift. I’d love to know who’ll be there.

[ALOUD] LA Central Library, June 23

I’m very excited about this one!  I’ve been to events in this series so many times, so it’s a huge thrill to be on the other side of the proscenium.

Though we’re at the library, please note that the subject matter is primarily suited for mature audiences.  I’ll read an excerpt from my essay in The Black Body along with five other writers from the anthology.  Meri Nana-Ama Danquah, the book’s editor, will moderate. Nzingha Clarke, David Goldsmith, Peter J. Harris, Philip Littell, Jason Luckett, and Gail Wronsky will read.

I don’t think Dan and I have shared a mic since the nineties, and it was definitely nothing like this. I’m excited to meet Julie after all these years. I don’t know Lisa yet, but Susan is a great writer, so this should be a very good night. Hope to see you.
